Words From the Past Are Food for Today!
In my fantastic home town of Chicago, outside of Soldier Field there is a monument to those who have died for liberty. Soldier Field has been there a LONG time, and this monument came later. It is a simple, but beautiful piece of stone, highly polished and strategically placed so it is easy to see. Whether it be a hot and sticky Chicago summer day or a freeze-up your-eyelashes kind of day, you will always see someone stop and read the inscription on it. In view of the political climate today, I thought that John F. Kennedy's words, spoken over 40 years ago might help us all understand a bit more about "freedom". What JFK said then sounds awfully conservative today. Reflecting on that, let me say that his words ring true for us now. And yes, for his values, for all he represented, whether you agreed with him or his party, for all of that, he too paid the ultimate price. God rest his soul and God help us!
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any
price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe,
to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
